This is the very similar to the black woman who is trying to sue Walmart. Apparently many skin/hair care products used by black women were inside locked drawers that requires an attendant to be opened.

She played the racist card. Walmart did it because they are the most stolen items and pledged to pursue the case.

I hope she gets served her ass in court.

Thats pretty much already the way it is in the US (at least in CA).

You got clear CCTV footage of a suspect shoplifting, into the paddy wagon with them. Cops only question people if there's a need to do so.

Sauce: Security/LE background.

Side note: this is also related to people bitching about not being Miranda'd, thinking they'll get off the hook. Cops only need to read them to the suspect if they are going to question them. In cases like this, there's no need to question, all the info the cops need is there on video.

Side side note: the right to remain silent does not apply to simply identifying oneself to the cops. You must give the cops your ID on demand/other info neccesary (SS, address, etc) for the purpose of ID'ing you.

But then again, this is the UK in question, and I know little about their wacky-ass system.

So they are banking on CCTV footage being clear enough to show the suspect in an act of crime so clearly that it would be all the evidence they'd need if the charges were contested? They are putting a lot of faith on security cameras...
