I heard it had good reviews, that it was a chill coming of age movie and I was looking forward to seeing something that wasn't a superhero flick.

It had the same formula of a chick flick a la Twilight or Sex in the City.

Teenage girl's father dies and she has to cope with it. She has an older brother whom she's jealous of because he appears to be an alpha Chad but she's so narcissistic that it doesn't ever occur to her that he's had to deal with his father dying as well, on top of becoming the man of the house to their mother and him worrying how he's going to cope balancing going to College versus his broken family. Solipsism to a T.

Then she has her typical Alpha v Beta choice. She pines for the good looking Chad who doesn't give a fuck about her existance versus the nerdy half-Asian kid who is "a nice guy" and obviously likes her but he's not Chad. Her interest is only peaked when she accidentally finds out that Beta kid has rich parents. Yet she still won't fuck him.

Then she tried to get Chad to fuck her, they have a squabble, she "sees the light" and tries to crawl back to Beta rich kid.

It was a chick flick formula disguised as a coming of age movie. They try to make the girl likeable but I couldn't stop thinking that the movie was based on how much of a cunt she was.

I guess the moral of the story is there's no new movies out there.
