What an excellent post, /u/daf121... thank you!

Note for everyone: while the title is obviously relevant to the content, I think it is far too concise, and so almost misleading -- it misses all of the truly fascinating DEPTHS of the issues he discusses (ALL of them VERY relevant to men & boys, to schooling & "indoctrination", to the roots and branchings of how that era has so dramatically and irrevocably shaped {misshaped? distorted?} our own... as well as what the causes of that mass tragedy were).

This is a most excellent audio "essay" for MGTOW's to listen to -- especially on this (Armistice/Remembrance/Veterans) day -- and I can only strongly encourage the readers here to either watch this now, or to specifically set aside some time later today or this evening to carefully watch/listen to it (preferably without distractions), and to truly give THOUGHT to the host of things that he discusses in it.

You will NOT regret the time spent.

EDIT: In fact, while I am generally NOT a big fan of these youtube based "essays" -- especially these hour-long things -- this one is such high quality content that I may even give it a second listen this evening ... it really is that good and thought provoking.

My first thought was "Why is this being posted HERE & NOW?" (i.e. WTF does it have to do with MGTOW?)

My second thought -- after I remembered what "anniversary" today was -- was still "Ok I get the now part... but why HERE in MGTOW?" (I figured if it was just about the "white feather" bit, then it would have a different title.)

Yes, it is most excellent IMO -- I was always bored & disappointed with what I consider the "whitewashed" bullshit geopolitical explanations of WWI. Certainly there is validity to all of the political shit as far as the upper echelons goes...

But none of that explains WHY the mass public (young males) were so "gung ho" about it (at least initially, circa 1914).

This at least gets to the "root" of where the mindset/beliefs of those young men came from -- and even though he only focuses on the British side, much of it applies equally to the Germans and even the Americans.

I can say that -- while I understand much had to be left out (lest it become a 2 or 3+ hour presentation) -- I was still slightly saddened he almost entirely skipped the "forgotten" history of many things on the US side... the various antiwar protests (and there were MANY), the insidious fervent, even violent racism & derogatory propaganda against anyone of "Germanic" heritage, to the point that German language speech (not to mention newspapers, etc) among such US citizens -- many of whom were 2nd or even 3rd or 4th generation US citizens -- was considered subversive, unpatriotic, even collusion with the enemy etc.

Nonetheless, he manages to pull together various threads and reveals many of the "roots" of why such masses of men so foolishly volunteered (and often in groups of friends) to willingly march off ant-like to become obeisant "cannon fodder" (in essence they had been indoctrinated into it, marinated in a "service machismo" during their entire youth -- and moreover that said indoctrination was NO accident, it was not some "unexpected effect", it was entirely intentional... planned decades before).
