Yes they certainly have their place...

But I seriously think the one I linked to -- and note there are "spoilers" below -- being an evening that is entirely absent any form (or even "hint") of "aggression" on the part of the guy ... who instead simply uses "puzzlement" whenever some ridiculously UNequal "special privilege" is expected or mentioned by the female and her various attempts (all failed/rebuffed) to use passive-aggressive guilt/shame (and everything including the proverbial {restaurant} "kitchen sink") at him -- in the end, the only thing she manages to "extract" from him is a free ride home, and then only by stiffing him on his request that she at least pay something towards the additional gas expense: a thoroughly VALID expectation (especially given that she never protested that she didn't HAVE "cash" merely that she had "failed to bring it along").

I think the thing is far more "artfully" done (it's also VERY short & sweet) -- the guy is almost a master of non-violent, non-aggressive, even non-engaging but merely "firm" boundary-assertive responses (the popcorn bit is nicely done) -- a sort of logical/social/verbal Aikido (cf also Aikido for the root martial art concept), where he effortlessly turns every attempt on her part to aggress/trick/shame/cost him back around onto her (to her own cost & detriment), while remaining entirely calm and almost totally unharmed himself (none of it -- other than the final "free ride home" gas -- actually costs him on ANY level, no effort nor impact, not emotional or psychological or physical).

Moreover, one can easily see HOW he does this*, just by changing (or ignoring) her gender: he treats her like a "guy" -- if you picture this as "2 guys" (i.e. 2 people who are "equals" in all senses {the thing feminists CLAIM they want, hence the title of the video}, no special "patriarchal" stuff, no "dating" privileged/biased cultural expectations) who have just decided to "hang" for a night together, hit a restaurant and then a movie... well then everything HE does (and expects, and how he reacts) makes perfect sense, and everything SHE does (all of the manipulations, tricks, lies, etc) are laid bare as the "parasitic" things that they are.

*And in the context of the video's "world" (the supposed "ideal-perfect-gender-equality" one the feminists claim to be trying to reach) -- he would actually not be acting with verbal Aikido (intentional or not) -- he would simply be acting as the social "norm" would have taught/expect him to act: all of her acts would be seen (by everyone -- note the waiter's expression) as ridiculously aberrational.

That shows guts and intelligence

Well, the thing is... in the "context" that the video is posited to be from (i.e. an alternate universe that was truly "equal", without any "special privileges" for women or dating) -- in that world HE really wouldn't be doing anything abnormal (i.e. his responses would BE the expected "norm").

So, in that sense he really isn't showing "guts" or even "intelligence" -- his reactions would just be habitual.

Again, note that the waiter's "shocked" expression/reaction -- while quickly shown is rather important -- it is HER behavior that is seen as aberrational (i.e. as a waiter his "shock" reveals that he has never SEEN a woman who expected or attempted to manipulate/trick a man into paying for HER meal in addition to his own).

But yes, using that technique in OUR world -- would take guts and intelligence.

Aikido:

Aikido (Japanese: 合気道, Hepburn: Aikidō ?) [a.i.ki.doː] is a Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba as a synthesis of his martial studies, philosophy, and religious beliefs. Aikido is often translated as "the Way of unifying (with) life energy" or as "the Way of harmonious spirit." Ueshiba's goal was to create an art that practitioners could use to defend themselves while also protecting their attacker from injury.

Aikido is performed by blending with the motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on. This requires very little physical strength, as the aikidōka (aikido practitioner) "leads" the attacker's momentum using entering and turning movements. The techniques are completed with various throws or joint locks.

Aikido derives mainly from the martial art of Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu, but began to diverge from it in the late 1920s, partly due to Ueshiba's involvement with the Ōmoto-kyō religion. Ueshiba's early students' documents bear the term aiki-jūjutsu.
