In order to stay safe and well legally, socially and mentally and when it comes to women and sex, I think it is only possible if you develop a lot of knowledge of cause and effect. The reason being that a lot of knowledge of cause and effect - particularly with regards to women and men - allows you good and accurate foresight and it also allows you to strategically act with discipline instead of just hoping for the best.
