How about raising them with critical thinking skills and the ability to reason and let them decide their own beliefs?

Really not the right subreddit for this (at all).

Are you going to home school? Because if you don't, then your kids are pretty much going to be indoctrinated into a combination of the worldviews of the people running whatever school they attend, along with whatever mixture of worldviews and beliefs their classmates bring along with them (from their own homes, and probably even more so the various media they consume). Oh, and no matter HOW much you try to 'pre-select' and then 'monitor' what some 'school' teaches; well you're still going to be pretty clueless about what they're REALLY putting into your kids head (and once it's in there, well it's gonna be difficult, nigh impossible, to get back out).
Planning to live in some rural area where you farm Amish style, and where your kids are pretty much able to watch and learn from you and/or your wife as you do your daily chores? Or else where you're at least going to be minimizing your work, and maximizing the things you do with your kids (not just the BS "quality over quantity" that treats kids as if they were accessories or pets for "weekend fun activities" -- because QUANTITY absolutely DOES matter, and what they are doing the REST of the week, who they are spending time with, watching & learning from... it MATTERS.)
Somehow otherwise REALLY control & limit access to mainstream media (i.e. virtually NO broadcast or cable TV, etc) and likewise no "each kid has a smartphone" so no access to social media/internet, etc; and...
Where the other families & thus other kids around you (you're kids playmates, and age-peers) are essentially going to be raised in a similar almost identical manner?

Because really, that's probably what it's going to take these days.

Even then, well they're still "independent creatures" and going to leave the proverbial "nest" someday... and that's really the only TRUE test of whether they've adopted YOUR values. (And the thing is, you may not even be aware of whether of when they've swapped them out for someone elses' either in part, or wholesale -- because they may very well do their best to hide that from you -- after all, didn't YOU have things going on {especially at age 18+} that your own parents didn't, and probably still DON'T know about?)

I really DISLIKE the "spin" that Hillary Clinton (et al) put on the phrase "it takes a village to raise a child" -- in part because that's fallacious, it DOESN'T require a village to raise a child -- but there is a bit of truth in that nonetheless: whatever "village" the child IS raised in and around (and these days that included the "global" village as presented on any/all types of screens, be it TV, computer, smartphone, tablet or whatever) has a major affect on kids... and unless the entire "village" (adults AND other kids) has a pretty tight control over and maintains a sort of "lockstep" attitude towards the same values, and among them the prevailing attitude towards being in control over what comes INTO the community from that wider "global" media; well, without that, you're gonna be S.O.L.

I'll answer regardless as I have 2 boys I'm raising (almost done with 1).

First, realize that you will have to homeschool or private school them. There is no public school that I have found that doesn't support society status quo. There are a few homeschool organizations that are close, but you have to monitor closely what they feed into your children's brains. Homeschooling can be fairly expensive but cheaper than private school (I average 10-15k a year for 2 children homeschooling). Homeschooling also takes a significant amount of time and energy from you.

Second, eliminate your television. Pre-watch movies/television through a streaming device and watch them with the children so that you can discuss psychology behind motives/actions.

Third, limit social media - until your children have the core philosophies you want ingrained in them.

We've ingrained into them leadership, self-sustenance and self-agency. We've also taught them a lot about psychology and sociology so that they can recognize, identify, and understand the world on their own terms.

It's like raising (actual raising not absence raising) any child I suppose but making sure that you are putting in the time and attention to actually be a parent (not a friend).
