Sorry, but... *Yawn*.

This is so ridiculously common as to not even be worthy of noting. The only thing that can be said here is that the guy is an IDIOT for ever believing (and properly planning for the contingency) that this WASN'T the most likely outcome.

EDIT: And as /u/squidracer noted elsewhere ITT this is actually something that IS in fact "best (or at least BETTER) for the kids" in terms of long term psychological health, because all kinds of negative crap (much of which our society attempts to be in blatant denial about) occurs with kids that are shuffled around in daycare.

Therefore the SMART couple (or man) will have PLANNED to make downward adjustments in their "lifestyle" (especially any/all "status" symbol expenses) in order to accommodate this.

The WISE couple (or WISE man) would of course have avoided the problem entirely -- and would have made certain they never allowed their "lifestyle" to become dependent upon a high/dual income in the first place (anything and everything that she made in terms of net after-tax income -- or at least the vast majority of it -- should have gone straight to savings, or investments, valuable assets of some type {which could include acquiring BASIC household things}).

But look at this guy's statement:

Ergo he is neither "smart" nor "wise" -- in fact he's a pretty generic "fool". Note the things (a delineated list of of relative trivialities) he thinks he's going to need to "sacrifice": I want to take our family to Disney World, put my girl in private piano lessons, and maybe even save for private college. There is not even the SLIGHTEST contemplation of reducing his other (almost guaranteed) "status symbol" lifestyle things -- i.e. the home {how much you wanna bet it's a "McMansion"?}, the car(s) {almost certainly relatively new, "status" brands be it BMW or Lexus or whatever}, and doubtless a whole range of other similar things {dude either already HAS, or desperately WANTS a whole host of "status" toys -- hey, they've been making $165k a year combined as DINKs or DINKWADs, the likelihood that they DON'T have and/or don't WANT such toys is virtually ZERO}.

To be honest, if I was going to go the family route I would want her to stay at home to kindergarten.

Study after study shows that kids do much better not going to daycare at such a young age.. She can work then. If your gonna have kids, raise then right.
