A lot of the anti-drug stuff is because of religion. Mushrooms, LSD, etc. give you a cosmic spirituality in many cases which means you come to the conclusion that dogmatic stupid rules aren't necessary and that you don't need to give money to a guy in a dress to tell you how to think.

They don't like that.

Also, factories don't want drugged out workers because it may cost them precious productivity of making widgets.

Alcohol, perfectly fine.

Pharmaceutical nonsense, perfectly fine.
