To start, I used to have a lot of social status 10 years ago in my city due to the legendary parties I threw and I was in a band that made me locally famous. Over time I struggled with alcoholism and mental illness and burned a lot of bridges with my close friends and got a bad reputation. I only have a couple close friends now and a lot of my old friends won’t forgive me and don’t want to hang out with me. I still do well with women but my lack of network definitely lowers my SMV. Now that I’ve stopped drinking I want to expand my network but it’s really hard to do that in your early 30’s. Should I just move somewhere new where my reputation isn’t tainted? I have a good union job in the trades here and I definitely rely on it to make a living. Also my city is a mid sized college city and it’s very “clique”. A lot of people know each other and most have larger networks that they met in college and high school. I belonged to the most popular one but am now shunned from it. Should I just try to make high value friends and create a new network? I feel like I’ve fallen down the dominance hierarchy and I don’t like it. Any help is appreciated.
