All right, this requires some context.

There's a girl at work (inb4 the DoN't ShIt WhErE yOu EaT comments: this is a temporary job) who gave me some IOI's a couple weeks ago, so I asked for her number. She gave it, and, rather than directly asking her out on a date, I decided to test the waters for biting fish to gauge her interest level. Doesn't respond enthusiastically, so I don't push towards asking her out. HOWEVER, she shows up on my Facebook People You May Know list a day later, which gives me the impression that she's looking me up. I let this sit for about a week. We'll pass by each other at work every once in a while, smile, wave, be friendly, hell, it seems her face brightens up every time she sees me.

I thought it would be fun to caffeinate the hamster a little bit, so one day I stopped her at work, and dropped this enigmatic line: "It seems like someone is doing a little detective work." She freezes like a deer in the headlights, and, with a tremor in her voice, says "Who, me?!?!" I simply smirk, and walk away. Open ended plausible deniability at its best.

I ratchet up the tension a little bit on my day off. Her profile pic is a selfie of herself with the sun glaring in the background. (Keep in mind, I have NOT added her.) So, I text her: I spy with my little eye, something bright. No response.

Now here's where things get tricky. The next day, during lunch break, I approached and sat at her table. Tried to spark a little conversation. Stone cold, short abrupt responses. She gets up and goes, politely saying she needs to get going. Ok, see you around. Covert rejection. NEXT.

...or so I thought.

Couple hours later, she confronts me during break, eyes flashing with furious anger. "WhAt DiD yOu MeAn WhEn YoU sAiD I wAs DoInG a LiTtLe ReSeArCh?!?!!?!" I fall back on plausible deniability: "I never said that." She rambles on for awhile, and threatens to report me to HR. This amuses me as she has no concrete evidence to accuse me with, as I was very careful about this interaction, and adhered to the JumboTron test. Any rational human being can see that, in this context, she's issuing an ultimatum because she feels powerless. I hold out my hand, assert myself, and say firmly, "I GET IT." Once she got the idea that I wasn't interested in arguing and shut up, she stormed off. "And you better not text me!!" she pouted, with the slightest twinge of pining in her voice. "Will do!" I retort.

So, to punish her for her petulance, I block her on FB, and plan to withdraw my attention completely this coming week. Wait for her to come crawling with an apology. If not, HARD NEXT.

....so far so good?
