My boyfriend won't help me with my bills. Do I have the right to be upset?

I've been with this man for 8 years. We don't live together. He is never married and has no children. I have a son from a previous relationship. Last night I told him I really needed help with my bills this month. I asked him for $300. I have never asked him for help before even though I could have used it lots of times. He has never offered to help me either even though he knows I struggle. I work full time making about $20k. He makes $200k+. I hated asking but I had to. I know it's his money and he can do whatever he wants with it but he acted as if I was a stranger. It hurt to have him question me about exactly what i needed it for. I don't spend money on frivolous things and he knows that. He acted like i was asking for $300. for a new bag or something. I still haven't gotten an answer from him and i feel so embarrassed for even asking. He has strung me along for years putting off marriage and I stayed this long mostly because my son adores him and would be devastated if we split. Am i wrong to be upset over this? It would be less humiliating to ask a stranger for help than to ask my own boyfriend.
