Just trying to see a Movie with my family yesterday and we watched Burning, a South Korean film of 2019, as many of you queens have commented on the past, FDS has changed my approach even when watching movies or series, this time all the movie is viewed from the "nice guy" perspective Jong su, the story starts when he finds an old friend from high school, Haemi, who asks him to take care of her cat while she is on a trip to Africa, when she returns she comes back with another guy named Ben, the difference between both guys is incredible, Ben is Rich, well mannered and has many friends, while Jongsu is poor, he is often quiet, he doesn't have any friend and his father is in prison, not that Haemi cares to even know about it, the movie goes around a lot of weird moments the 3 of them shared. At first, you could understand why Haemi chooses Ben, but there were significantly red flags from the guy, subtle things: -Ben laughs at the tears of Haemi, and explains he doesn't remember him being sad or crying not even as a child. -He doesn't care and even enjoys when his friends make fun of the stories of his date, in the way that sure feels embarrassing. -When Haemi asks why is he interested on her, Ben says he likes her weird way to see the world, note: Haemi is also poor, drowned in debt and too lonely. *** Spoiler alert*** At some point while Jongsu is at the home of Ben, with Ben and Haemi, he goes to the bathroom and checks a drawer filled with belongings of other women, he knows it is weird but never tells Haemi. When Haemi is not around, Ben tells Jongsu about his weird hobby, burning down empty greenhouses, each 2 months, Ben tells Jongsu that he will burn one greenhouse close to Jongsu farm, which makes Jongsu alert and he goes around searching for a greenhouse, finally he realizes that greenhouses are a metaphor about Ben Killing his lovers, of course Haemi is dead at that time. ***"
Conclusions: 1. Never let a man know you are totally alone and sunk in debt, this story was extreme, but it's not worth it to prove it wrong. 2. Work hard to keep clean finances and a relationship with your family, someone that really cares, should know that you are safe and sound at all times. 3. Asking the new guy and his friends about his previous partners is important, to hear how he describes them, are they crazy? They disappeared in thin air? Does he sound like he is still in love with her? 4. Don't idealize a guy just because he has money, be very aware of things before letting him in your life.
I don't think Jongsu was a good partner for Haemi either, mostly because Haemi was not in a good place for dating, she was vulnerable, too lonely and with too much debt, please don't be her.
