Kinda a response thread to one of the top threats from earlier

I used to be very narcissistic and compulsive about wanting attention and gifts on my birthday, cause it was the thing I was taught to believe was acceptable to exhibit those days

Now looking back, I feel corporations and social media have made a mockery out of birthdays

The concept of birthdays has fascinated me for quite awhile

And to be fair the average Joe these days doesn't even acknowledge their birthday anymore

I feel like birthdays aren't so much about the celebration anymore, is about the attention that comes with it. Is the same shit with marriage, most people these days use marriage as a publicity stunt, and so they pretend to enjoy their marriage for the sake of fitting in

What do you guys think? Did consumerism culture, corporations and social media took birthdays out of their original intentions?

It is real funny my mom and aunt only get more demanding with their birthday wishes each and every year where as I pretty much always want stuff way long before the birthday

I haven't had a full on birthday celebration in over a decade and I am so thankful for that lol. Not to mention being an introvert myself, I never really had the desire to host like a festival type party. Unless it was in my daycare or a public venue, never at home.
