In Japan, if the husband comes home in time without overtime, the wife will nag his ears to hell. Because if you're not doing overtime meaning you're not working hard enough, if you're not working hard enough you're not ensuring the survival of the family. That's why most of the workers male/female will do their fake overtime by going to bars and night clubs for booze then comes back teller the wife they went drinking with bosses (Korea is also having such similar culture). Correct me if i am wrong, because i heard this from my family who spend quite some time working at Japan. Women are extremely money minded there, they said so themselves (also rest of any Asian countries), typical gaijin is basically their savior to get to greener pastures, once they're safe on fertile land they'll start grass hopping around guys. So, AWALT.

Money is money, it all comes down to why you want it. Are you looking to retire early? Have something you want to buy? Are looking to put away something for a rainy day? All of these are valid reasons for putting in some overtime.

On the other hand, the nagging wife issue. If you put in extra time and make the company look good, not only are you compensated for it, you at least have an even chance of the boss expressing his appreciation. A wife will never thank you for putting in more work at home.

We have guys around her in their late 60-s early 70-s with 40+ years seniority that refuse to retire because they don't want to be at home all the time...
