Assume that every joke a guy tells you is actually meant fully seriously. You can laugh, but internally pretend that you are an alien who doesn't understand jokes. Analyse them. Remember them, and think about them. Think about the worst possible interpretation of the joke. Even if it seems ridiculous to you, and you are SURE he's just joking. Every. Single. Joke.

You know the saying "When somebody tells you who they are, believe them"? The guy is telling you here who he is.

  • "Ha ha I'm so lazy" -> Spends his weekends watching Netflix and eating chips in bed.
  • "Oh women are so silly" -> Believes women are actually stupider than men.
  • "Lol aren't you eating too much?" -> Will forever criticize your weight.

I know this sounds ridiculous, and I'm not telling you to leave a guy because he makes a stupid joke that can be taken wrongly without context. But try it. Write them down somewhere, or at least keep a mental note of them.

I had a guy joke about my weight, and I took it as just a joke because my weight was actually alright (my reasoning was that since I look good, I don't have to be insecure about it, and so I should be able to take a joke like that without problems). He really did want me to be thinner, and eventually started being downright abusive about it. He also made some very mildly racist jokes while drunk, and I didn't think too much of it, only to eventually realize that he truly is racist as hell. Another guy joked that he believes he is the only real person in the universe and everybody else is just a simulation for his entertainment. It's not something you would normally take seriously. He turned out to be an absolute narcissist, and upon further questioning, seem to have really believed that. The jokes that men tell are a huge well of information about them.
