Please I know there are a lot of 'Racial Superstitions' that Indians are rapists and what-not but i will hope you keep aside these and focus on the task at hand.

Also unless explicitly mentioned all people mentioned here are minors (age is between 14 to 17)

I wanted to post this here long ago but was unaware of the actual situation. So i waited till something concrete was done and could segregate facts from the hype.

​

Last week #boyslockeroom (boys locker room) trended on indian twitter after it was revealed that some boys had made a chat group ( i am not aware of which platform... I do not use social media that much and there are some screenshots from instagram and snapchat )where they were indulging in objectifying women and planning rapes.

​

Now do note that there was massive influx of screenrabs and whatnot and a lot of stories unrelated to this also came out. It happened within a few hours so there is no 'ground zero' where all of this started from.

I request you all to simply search #boyslockerroom on twitter to get the entire story but i will provide the gist over here.

Note: any point marked T== Verified Truth ,D == NOT verified(Based on hearsay) , MT == My take of what happened

​

T>A group known as Boys locker room exists on instagram where boys are objectifying women.

​

T> A girl (referred as AN] exposes some screenshots from the group after which some boys plan to rape her on the same group.

(Timeline here is a bit weird whether the rape bid was made before the allegation or after the 'expose')

T> The trend starts on Twitter with support and doubt pouring from all over the country.

T> No news channel covers this story.

MT> News channel and News papers gather data first as they can sewed for incorrect information.

Also Since there was no political or communal angle to this...They could not be bothered.

T> Police from the city of gurgaon register a FIR (First Incident Report, marks the beginning of a criminal case)

T ~ D >AN is found saying the following in chats:

-a girl who claimed a friend of AN raped her while she was intoxicated was called a 'FlatFuck

AN said she should make sure she was raped again to make sure she knew what rape was.

- AN is also quoted as saying that if you flirt with a guy and if he does not reply back he is 'Faggot'

(these are between Truth and hearsay as some of it might have be taken out of context or morphed)

D> the girl claims to be receiving hate calls and threats. Reveals msgs from the boys themselves saying that they will be safe cuz they have friends in high places.

MT> 'D' cuz not proved but is very much plausible.

D > Next Day A female version of the chat roup is 'found' and AN is a part of it. ScreenShots are released but unlike the ones for the boys locker room...The usernames are censored.

MT> The chat might be fake...Not because "girls do not do such things" /s but because the screenshots did not contain any usernames. also AN being a part of it is too convenient.

T> People start speaking out how men are twisting things around with the new trend #girlslockerroom

"they could have spoken out before but why now ???'

T>Boyslockerrom hits the first page of the newspapers ,the Admin is arrested but #girlslockerroom does not et a mention.

​

MT> (TOXIC ALERT )guess a few screenshots mandate arrest only men are involved. When it is females...They could have been faked.

This is where the situation stands for now

AN's name has been made public (at least her ig id) but did not want to post it here to prevent hate mongering and promote actual discussion. You will find it if you look.

​

Two more cases arose at the same time and were thought to be linked with the original group but were not.

​

MT> they were suddenly bursted open to gain 'Traction'

​

Case 1 > A snapchat involving two boys talking about raping a girl.

​

Actual Case> Now a few people revealed that the case was from years ago and people should not spread it as it may damage the original case.

​

MT> actually mature response by a lot of people.

​

Case end >IT WAS THE girl herself !!. She made a fake id and sent the DMs to the other guy to check his "moral integrity" by planning to get herself 'raped'.

Case 2 > A girl shared a few msgs that she recieved (or sent ... I dont know who the OP was, the victim or a friend) saying how a guy had tried to rape her 2 years ago.

MT> IT doesn't matter whether it happened yesterday or a decade ago.... come out and speak out against this.

however the fact that this was done at such a time where it would gain the most traction and done in the

most horrible way ( No police case just a few pics ) makes me doubt this extremely and almost dismiss this a publicity stunt

case end > guy commits sucide. No defamation (or whatever the correct term is) case is filed against the girl no major movement occurs.

Sorry for the long post.

But here is a tiny tidbit: An had shared a few screenshots of a conversation only to reveal it hours later that it might be morphed.

I do not know whether they were related to any of the cases above so wont spend time on it.

​

I would like to post a lot of hate tweets from both the sides but that would lead us nowhere.

But do note the following:

​

Fake-Feminists ( referred as FF) >claim that no major coverage shows rape culture

​

MT> there was no major coverage for either AN's homophobia and rape threats either. No FIR lodged in the girls locker room case or Case 2 .

​

FF> girls are being doubted for no other reason than 'Its just a screen shot'

​

MT> refer to the original case where anybody who doubted the screenshots was shown as 'Potential Rapist'.

​

To sum it off, This is not the usual straw-man (straw-woman ?) fallacy we use against the allegations of rape culture. This actually happened.

The 'Whistle-blowers' when suspected to show the same behavior are not probed.

It is the girls locker room which has been hidden not the boys one. Accusers are being protected not the accused.

Cases lodged and arrests made on the basis of screenshots for men

but when it is women the screenshots are assumed to be morphed ( I agree it is likely ) but the same benefit of doubt is not provided to men.

Instead on focusing on the fact that across the world kids barely having achieved puberty are becoming more and more sexualised we are treating it as "hapless girls" against "demons".

I ( 17yo) have been told on the face in a public setting by a girl 2 years younger than me that i should get a girlfriend cuz being a virgin at my age does not suit a guy like me.

Rape is and will always be a heinous crime.However instead of focusing on more important topics like hypersexualised teens and addressing the issues if we talk about the effects rather than the root cause we are failing them.

Of course if the guys have said something... they should be made to face the repercussions for their actions but it should not be gender biased.

The two cases were sprung up and added to the maelstrom to gain traction. People should have opted for the legal way instead of believing them outright.
