As a teacher. You're not wrong.

I try my best not to let my ego get in the way, and i think i do a pretty good job at that.

I do my best to shut down bullying. But bullies are fucking good at manipulating people, and teachers don't always see it, i know because i was the kid who got bullied, but also somehow got blamed for standing up for myself. (throwing the first punch made me the bully. Because they didnt see the weeks of verbal abuse i would be subjected to between fights)

My favourite kids to work with are the ones who are like what i was. Often smaller, nerdy dudes who just want people not to hate them. I do my best to be a positive role model, but also slip them some info on how the world works, how they've been fed lies about what people want, and so on.

I hope i can make a difference for them. But I've seen a lot (i mean a LOT) of bad teachers. Teachers yelling at the "less popular" kids for asking too many questions. Teachers who let their favouritism show, who pick sides, the teachers who were hated as kids but now they have power the popular crowd suck up to them, and they let it go to their heads. Not to mention curriculums that tell these young men that they need to sacrifice everything for others, that they need to step back and let women take their place in the world to make up for the original sin of being male.. I hope i can show them that the only person who's opinion should matter to them matters is their own. But I'm a single person, pushing against the weight of social opinion and often their parents.. I don't know how much of an effect i can have.

Still, hope is eternal. If i can show one or two young men the light, maybe it'll have a ripple effect.

But yeah. Lots of teachers are shit. I include myself in that list about 50% of the time.
