I had a recent talk with a military guy who used to be in the UK art for many years going back 1980. He confirmed that many of this mates got divorced AFTER returning from deployment. The reason: spend enough time with your spouse and you find out who they are. Apparently, having a relation with someone who is deployed is complex: the stay behind needs to be self sufficient while the partner is away, but step back a bit when he gets home.

I get relationship, don't work well for many of them.
