A few years ago I hooked up with a single parent mother, let's refer to her as Angela. She had two kids, boy age 4, girl age 7. Angela and I went on a date to the cinema, then home and I spent the night with her. As you can imagine, we had sex on the first date.
The next morning she had to get up early to go to work, and she told me that I had to stay in her house for the morning watching the kids until she got back from work (cleaner at a large department store).
She then kissed me on the cheek, and walked out the door. At that moment, three things went through my head:
[i] I don't know these kids.
[ii] I could get accused of anything by these kids.
[iii] Angela left a man she just met alone with her kids in the house.
Thought [i] was not such an issue, I figured i'd make them breakfast and watch telly for a few hours. I actually had a fun morning, they were cracking kids and referred to me as "Uncle ######", which I found quite endearing. We watched TV, ate chocolate, and even had a water fight in the garden.
Thought [i] scared me at first, but when the kids woke up and I introduced myself, they seemed pretty relaxed and were happy to eat breakfast with me.
Thought [iii] was what bothered me the most. Angela had demonstrated a complete lack of risk assessment. She only knew me for 2 weeks, and on the first date let me have sex with her, and then left me... basically a stranger... along in her house with her kids for a whole morning. I could have been anyone, I could have been a predator who was targetting single parent mothers to have access to their kids, I could have been a child abductor. Angela did not seem to care. Whilst I appreciate being given trust, it troubled me that she trusted a man she just met too easily.
In conclusion, a single parent mother displayed a total absense of risk assessment, and left a man she just met alone in her kids for a whole morning. She was so relaxed and casual about it, that I got the impression this was not a new thing for her. Also, her kids resonse was that this was normal behaviour.
