Crosspost "Navigating Awrah and Non-binary friends?" from /r/Hijabis:

I've worn a hijab my whole life. I respect that transgender women identify as women and are thus women. So I would be comfortable with taking my hijab off in front of cis and trans women friends. (This hasn't happened and is my personal opinion, not debated and agreed upon by scholars. I am up for listening to different persepctives but please don't come to me looking for a fight, it's already hard enough navigating gender & sexuality in religion lol)

However, I am still very confused about whether it is okay or not to take off my hijab in front of my non-binary friends. Since they belong on neither end of the gender spectrum (and i respect that), I'm not sure where that puts them. I am currently off the opinion that if they're afab (assigned female at birth) and lean more towards a feminine side (?) then it's okay. But if they lean more towards a masculine identity then it's not even if they're afab. Thoughts?
