Hey, so I'm just starting to unplug and I've been lurking on TRP and picked up a copy of the rational male. I've got a question about shit tests and maintaining frame relative to a situation I just dealt with.
So I was with a girl I've been in a LTR for about a year now and I'm starting to recognize how much of a beta I've been and I'm slowly starting to change my behavior. I've never taken insults from her, however. So after sex, we walk to a local dinner to get a bite to eat and an old argument comes up (that was resolved with her apology). She calls me immature and just starts giving me shit for it and I told her to knock it off. She continues and I make it clear that if I hear another insult out of her I will simply go home. She continues and I walked away. She ran after me and tried to hold my hand, and let her. She then was obviously upset and tried telling me to calm down. I told her I was calm but she knew "damn well" that if this behavior continued I would go home. I told her to let go of me and she ran home. At first, I thought I passed the shit test because she called me almost immediately after I arrived home, but she still insisted that I needed to "relax." I told her I was calm but she needed to think about her behavior and we'd talk in the morning.
So my questions are: 1) Did I pass the shit test? Was her holding my hand a comfort test? I honestly could not tell with how she kept insisting I needed to relax. 2) Does it seem like I held frame? I felt very confident and relaxed throughout the whole event. I felt very calm and stoic simply informing her that I would leave if her behavior continued, but I felt like I was over-reacting by leaving. At the same time, I feel like I had to for consistency's sake.
Thanks for your help and I'm really glad to start to see realtiy.
