One thing to understand about movies, books, plays, etc. Anyone who has ever taken a course or read a book on writing fiction will know this, because it's the first thing they teach you. It is part one of the "formula". They will tell you that "in order to keep the reader engaged, your protagonist has to have a goal he or she will pursue. The interest in the story comes from the pursuit of the goal and the obstacles the protagonist has to overcome in order to reach that goal. "This is lesson number one in constructing any work or fiction, whether novel or movie or play or even song. The easiest thing to make a goal, especially in the movie, is "the girl" or "the woman". You have a guy and he wants to get "the girl". This is especially populair in movies because the majority of movie goers are women, and by making "the girl" the main goal of the protagonist, this panders to the paying audience by making each woman in the audience, by projection, feel she is a prize and a goal worth pursuing. So, as opposed to reality, in movies, this whole thing of "the girl" as the prize is just formula. It's an easy way of making a saleable story. It has nothing to do with reality. Don't buy into what you see in movies. In non-romantic movies, the goal might be something different, like beating the enemy, if it's a war story, or winning the big game, if it's a sports story, but in a romantic movie, aimed at the female audience, the goal will be "the girl" and it has nothing to do with life, but is just adhering to a well tested formula, and is generally a sign of creative laziness rather than even genuine romantic intention.
Ofcourse fiction and reality is different and many people will know this to a certain extent, but after consuming so many hours of the same thing over and over again, you would have to not be a human to let it touch your form of reality. So good luck on going your own way, and remember that you are the prize in your life. Don't hate others (including women), just be aware of danger signs when exchanging time and effort as to how this will benefit both of you in equal terms, so you don't get the short stick.
