I think we are deluding ourselves as a society these days, in our efforts to situate men and women as equal. I don't need to go into the details, and in fact many of you may know more about this than I do, but women and men are clearly not equal. Biologically, men are stronger and larger than women. Socially, we're better at dealing with confrontation, conflict, negotiation, assertiveness, and handling our emotions. They're often also incredibly naive about how harsh both nature can be, and how cruel human beings can be.

My perspective: Women need help to get by in the world, especially if they are going to try to live as men, and especially as traditional feminine roles and occupations are becoming increasingly rare or otherwise denigrated. Many of them struggle, even with these advantages, to live independently, much less open jars.
