This is utterly personal, but here goes into the void.

I have been firmly avoiding any dating for most of my teens and young adulthood, being absolutely content with it. Now i am nearing the end of my 20s and will soon lose my father, my role model, to cancer. He is already only a husk due to rapid occuring brain damage. It is a very sudden development that was only revealed 10 days ago and has me truly unhappy for the first time in over a decade.

The only family i will have left is my mother ... and already i feel some kind of emptiness (which i know is mostly to grief) and an inner voice nagging, "maybe i should look for someone to get involved with". We have a fairly big house and it feels very empty - a decade ago grandparents passed away and now we will go from 3 to 2 residents.

Ma today dropped the casual "we sometimes hoped you would sometime bring another person to the christmas dinner table" which kind of hurt like it never did when such statements were dropped before. It doesn't help that she was totally faithful to him in marriage for 30+ years and is in utter shambles while grieving now, giving me the no-go impression that there might really be NAWALTs (to use a MGTOW term) out there.

Any general ideas on how to approach this? I already know i might need therapy sometime, but maybe there is some viewpoint i can learn.
