Out of boredom and morbid curiosity, I've been surfing the Netflix originals and after yet another abysmal bit of cinema, I've had an idea. The following will be a romp back to the halcyon days of (as Marcus put it) the metaphysics of mgtow, theory and mechanics. Consider this a trigger warning, as it were.

If you look at many of these shows and movies, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Ratched, Enola Holmes, etc. They all share a near identical thematic profile. Apart from simply being lesbian feminist navel gazing, they all share the same character tropes. The men are all either bumbling buffoons or barely containable monsters. The women are all smart, talented, and closet lesbians discovering their inner dyke. The plots are important only in that they further illustrate and drive home those tropes. The filmmaking is actually above average, but I suspect this is merely to distract the poor forlorn boyfriends who have to sit through these pieces of mediocrity.

But why these tropes? There are plenty of strong female characters in fiction... Eleanor Ripley, Wonder Woman, Princess Leia, Irene Adler etc. Why do they feel it necessary to belabor the above mentioned idiotic tropes, when there are better female characters out there?

Here's my theory. As feminism becomes more dominant in our cultural landscape, you end up with more of those lesbian feminists behind the camera (and pocketbooks) of Hollywood. And let's be honest, lesbians and feminists are simply girls who never grew out of the "eww, boys have cooties" phase of their lives. And so, they approach cinema from that warped, childish, and annoying perspective.

And here is where the situation gets stickier still... As these tropes become more and more dominant in cinema, more and more women will fail to grow out of that phase, leading to more miserable cat ladies and more confused and annoyed young men.

Modern cinema sucks... There's no question about it. I miss the glory days of the 70's and 80's, where you could have heros of whatever gender and it didn't matter, because hey, they're a badass. It's an escape from reality. But now, the line is being intentionally muddied, leading to the cinematic death spiral we're currently witnessing.

I don't have a solution to this, nor would I hazard a suggestion... I merely found it interesting in a morbid misanthropic sort of way and thought I'd share my thoughts.
