Living with family has been probably the single best decision I could have made to help shape my financial future. People like to talk about how horrible it is to be living with your parents in your twenties.

But if you have a good relationship, you're paying bills and you're not coming home drunk, I highly recommend doing so if you are setting yourself up for financial / career success.

When everyone I knew moved out, I was still at home saving my money until I could put a 20% deposit for a property. I waited a few more years than normal, paid off my student loans ~15000 USD which isn't too high. I managed to save 12 months of emergency funds and was able to save the money for a 20% on a house in my mid twenties.

Now the only payment I have to worry about is a 30 year mortgage I plan on paying off in 15 at the rate I'm going. I didn't have to rent expensive apartments, didn't have to deal with terrible roommates and my family enjoyed having me there (and I did a lot of the manual work around the house which helped with my father's back issues).

Don't feel ashamed about living with your parents. Have an exit plan, use it as a stepping stone. I'd rather be 30 with no debt on my own than 30 with a shit ton of bills, student loans and credit card debt I cant pay off like the 30 year old's I know who just had to party their 20's away
