Backstory:
During the week this became a pandemic, my ex and I settled a 2 year long custody battle.
Settlement is that we get 50/50 and I pay a penance for being a good Dad.
I drop off and before the week is out they are both sick. Corona? We don't know but quarantine is in effect.
We mutually agreed the any of my time lost will be made up for after this passes. Daily calls, regular updates, and video chats are thumbs up.
It's been a while since I've seen my child in person and all I hear is "I'll see you later today, right"? And "I want to go to your house. You'll get me soon right"? Explain this to kid and you're in for a tough ride.
It's getting harder to call and even harder to hang up.
My Buddy:
(Nov, 2019)
So I had the "opportunity" to spend a lot of time at an animal rescue. I see this dog that reminds me of another dog I've had in the past and I immediately take to him. I drove up and while every other dog is flipping out he's the only one just chillin'.
My kid tested super low allergy to dogs in 2018 and I'm hesitant. Ex caused a fit back then and had to remain dogless. This pup has been in for more than a year with prospects that only see an energetic dog when he gets attention. (He's 3, so not quick to adopt)
I finally talk to my lawyer after 3 mo They say do it. I pull the trigger and bring him home for a trial period. Cue, best dog ever. Doesn't bark, no aggressive qualities about anything, good with kids and other dogs, and trainable (first month was rough because he spent a year outside, not house trained).
Couldn't ask for a better mate to go through this with. Knows when I'm down but will keep to himself until I call him over. Loves, unconditionally. Gets beef soup AND kibble for dinner cause no SO.
He's the hug when no one else can give it.
Thanks for reading.
TL;DR
My child and ex are on lockdown. Dog I rescued a month before this is a godsend. Also, thanks brothers for keeping me on the path (TL;DR exclusive).
Stay safe out there
Here's my buddy that's keeping me company.
