Sure, chinese goods are sometimes crappy, and sure china cuts corners at times with workers rights, HOWEVER as a country china has improved. I have been to the country 2x and know some chinese nationals personally. as a country, china is becoming LESS communist and more progressive. it has IMPROVED on workers rights from what I saw and what my chinese friends told. (sure china is not perfect, but It is doing a pretty good job as a country)
Here is why. I am so sick of old white guys who own mom and pop shops go "rah rah rah u.s.a, local rah rah rah".
I bought a banjo (it was made in china the american ones were proposterously expensive nearly 1k for a starter banjo! (NO ONE spends that much on ANY stringed instrument) While the chinese banjo was not terrible it needed some adjustments to be workable. (but it was a decent banjo none the less)
so anyway, i take it to the mom and pop shop and tell them i bought this banjo online. it seems pretty good, just it needs a few adjustments or too and some setup. the old white guys ridicule me and say my banjo is garbage due to being made in china and that i need a 'murican banjo.
They also said i'll need to wait a week for an expert to come and add highly specialized parts to the instrument. Then would end up charging me over $200 for this (NO ONE spends $200 on a banjo adjustment).
I am a full time college student with 2 jobs. while i could easily afford the adjustment i informed them i really have no time to schlep up to that music store very often. I asked them is their a way to get this fixed sooner. i told them i can pay them extra.
they refused and said: "good things come to those who wait" and some stupid bible versus. I told them ok, i'm taking my business somewhere else. (their is a chinese man who fixes musical instruments and is supplied by chinese companies) they said: "your not supporting american workers and local mom and pop stores"
(I then quit banjo, i don't have time to fart around with adjustments as a full time college student with 2 jobs.
Americans are fankly too entitled, that is the reason that 50% of their businesses fail. I don't give a FUCK about white trash methheads who lost their "manufactur'n jobs and were sent overseas" (frankly chinese factory workers are better, they don't demand long lunchtimes, they don't slack off and smoke meth etc they have a better work ethic culturally.) (heck if i was an american manufcaturing company i would ship my jobs over to china) . The reason i don't buy from american companies is their products suck, they are TOO expensive, and have too many specialized parts, when something breaks i NEED it fixed NOW! I fucking SPELL it out to them and say that to make their business more successful, they need to cater to most people's wants of wanting something fixed fast!
Americans charge INSANE prices for things even if it is garbage. For example that banjo shop LITERALLY had a gourd with a stick in it and charged $300 for it. (it was a gourd banjo) that is INSANE! When I call americans out on this, they get VERY DEFENSIVE and say: I'm not "supporting 'murica"
Chinese companies on the otherhand, are ATTENTIVE to what people want. If their products are shit they don't say: "your not supporting china, " rather, they take note, and try to improve. and they don't ridicule their buyers they always say: "i'm sorry I will get this fixed for you"
THEN i had a better experience. I once needed to buy a guitar for someone. I went to a china town and bought a guitar that was made in china. sure it was not the BEST quality in the world but it was mass produced with easily replaceable parts. It did not need too much adjustment honestly.
A week later, a part was faulty and broke. i took it back and the chinese man. said in his broken english: "oh I'm sorry. I will replace this part. Just give me 10 minutes. this part is easily replaceable and he even said its not specialized" he then quickly fixed it and gave me some spare parts and said: "if the peg breaks, just unscrew it and tab it in. it will only take you 10 minutes" He of course charged me but for a reasonable price. (the part was $7) (he charged me $12 for the job).
I told him his service was fantastic! He also makes an EFFORT to try to attract people of ALL demographics into his store. his goods which are guitars made in china, cater to those who want to start out by having cheap starter kits, he then has guitars that cater to Spanish speakers, by putting the music books in spanish, he had small chindrens guitars and books, he has guitar books for busy college students that are geared in a "5 minutes a day" approach.
While that "mom and pop shop" if someone says: "i can't afford a 1k banjo thats insane for a starter" they basically say: "tough" save up. ALL I see who buy are older white guys: (older white guys have the most disposable income in america however if you only cater to that group, you shut out a lot of potential buyers). (plus old white guys will croak one day and then your market is essentially dead).
Chinese companies on the otherhand are better due to having more competion. china has HUGE entrepreneur population. You would NEVER see this shit happen in china. if a chinese business acted like a banjo store the buyers would say: "go fuck yourself" and the store would close down over night because another chinese business would EAGERLY take its place.
(one reason i also think american companies are bad is they play on guilt, and cater to a small demographic this creates no competition, so they can be as lazy as they want).
