I've told my kids that I won't pay for their weddings when they're ready to tie the knot. I haven't told them why, but it's because it's just an overpriced, one day party.

Big weddings don't contribute to anything other than the economy. It doesn't help your kid become a better person, secure their marriage, or secure their future. If anything, it shows poor financial judgment. To add, divorce is very possible.

Personally, what I would contribute to is a down payment on a house or a rainy day fund. If they get divorced, at least they can get half of the home's equity, or the rainy day fund can help them get by.
