Signal recruited about 500 Indian men as guest workers to repair oil rigs and facilities damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, according to plaintiffs.

The workers paid $10,000 apiece to recruiters and were promised good jobs and permanent US residency for their families, according to the suit. When the men arrived at Signal shipyards in Pascagoula, Mississippi, they discovered that they would not receive promised residency documents.

Signal also charged the men $1,050 per month to live in guarded labour camps where up to 24 men lived in single 1,800-square-foot (167-square-metre) units, according to the suit.

An economist who reviewed Signal’s records for the plaintiffs estimated the company saved more than $8m by hiring the Indian workers.

Defendant had smuggled about seven men from Tonga and forced them to work in his pig-farming and landscaping businesses for little and sometimes no pay.

The defendant withheld the victims’ passports in order to avoid attempts to escape.

The men lived in shacks, were not given adequate food, and were beaten as punishment.  Defendant also lied to the victims and told them that he had gotten them adequate visas, but in reality, he had not.

The victims worked Monday through Friday from sunup to sundown, building rock walls and trimming trees sometimes as late as 9 p.m. They were paid between $100 to $200 a week, or sometimes not at all if Maka did not feel they worked hard enough.

Frequently the victims were forced to catch and eat dogs because their food stores had not been replenished.

As part of his plea, Mr. Lee admitted that he used forced labor on his agricultural crew, which picked oranges on behalf of growers in and around Fort Pierce. Lee recruited homeless African-American men for his operation, and he created a "company store" debt through short-term loans for rent, food, cigarettes, and cocaine. Lee then used that indebtedness, along with force and threats, to compel the workers to harvest fruit against their will. Lee admitted to abducting and beating one of his crew members to prevent him from leaving Lee's employ.

In 1983, Robert Fulmer and Louis Molitoris — who have IQs of 67 and 60, respectively — were discovered working on the Kozminski dairy farm in Chelsea, Michigan. Ike Kozminski, his wife Margarethe, and his son John used the labor of Fulmer and Molitoris seven days a week, for approximately 17 hours a day since they brought the men to the farm. Margarethe picked up Fulmer from the side of road in 1967, and by doing so took him away from a farm where he previously worked. Ike Kozminski found Molitoris living on the streets in Ann Arbor in the early 1970s and brought him to the farm to work. At first, the men received $15 per day, and later they received no pay at all. Although both men were in their sixties, they had the mental capacity of children between 8 and 10 years old. The Kozminskis told Fulmer and Molitoris that they could not leave the farm, and on one occasion John Kozminski threatened Molitoris with institutionalization. They also failed to provide the men with adequate nutrition, housing, and medical care, and told them not to contact their families or any other outsiders.

As reported by Save the Children, children between the ages of 14–17 years engage in hazardous work and account for 62.8% of India's child labour workforce in which more boys than girls (38.7 million vs. 8.8 million) are forced into doing more hazardous work.

It has an impact on boys future since they cannot go to school. Boys in poverty are more likely to end up killing themselve, using drugs/alcohol, becoming rough sleepers, becoming criminals or being victims of crimes.

Another aspect of forced labor is conscription. Which is totally legal and again mostly affect men and boys.

But as always, the "gender lens" seems to be lost when an issue affect more males than females.
