The plastic surgery industry thrives based on our insecurities as women due to the demands of the patriarchy and their idea of what "femininity" actually constitutes.
This is also true about the makeup industry and males expectations of what a woman should look like. Personally, I absolutely love makeup as artistry and I do wear it, but I can totally see why people believe that the makeup industry thrives on women trying to be what's deemed beautiful in society, mainly for the gaze of men.
Men are the biggest sales persons of the plastic surgery industry. Their consumption of pornographic material, photoshopped images, and unrealistic body expectations of women have made them truly believe that in order for a woman to be deemed "attractive" and "worthy of his attention", she needs to be nipped/tucked accordingly.
Fake breasts, fake asses, liposuction, fillers, BBLs. In excess, these are surgical interventions that's only goal is to please men and acquire their gaze. I don't know about you, but I can't think of one person who got an enormously sized fake ass "just because she likes it." Same with the massive implants, and I can speak from personal experience on this. Before FDS, I would pander to who I was dating to emulate the big-titty pornstars he would fantasize about. After spending thousands of dollars and making myself extremely sick (silicone toxicity), I still wasn't enough for him.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reveals from its 2014 plastic surgery statistics that women accounted for 92% of all cosmetic procedures, with the remaining 8% going to men. There are more recent statistics you can easily search online, however, they are not broken down by gender. Considering the top procedure in the U.S. according to a 2020 report are breast implants, you can take a wild guess on what gender holds the biggest share in the plastic surgery industry.
The American Society of Plastic Surgery also has 758 female members and 4742 male members. More proof that male surgeons are preying on our insecurities as women MOSTLY DRIVEN by other men both in and out of the plastic surgery sphere!
Why are we constantly manipulating our bodies and our faces to please men?! Why is there this unwritten expectation of what we should look like in order to be considered "attractive" to them? Why do we need to look like sex robots who have no autonomy? As women, we never have the same expectation of men. If we did, we would all tell them to get lipo to get rid of their dad bods and dick lengthening surgery. The likelood of men undergoing an invasive procedure is slim to none. These men constantly bitch about simple surgeries such as vasectomies and circumsicion as "mutilitation" and an "unrealistic expectation" from women. Yes, these same men don't give a damn when they see us recovering brutally (and in some instances DYING) from extremely invasive procedures that were, unfortunately, driven to be done by the demands of men and their patriarchial and false idea of what a woman should look like.
The plastic surgery industry is going to continue to thrive unfortunately, due to the abundance of social media, photoshopped images, and sexual content. I am really concerned for our future generations of women and the unrealistic expectations bestowed on them, its only going to get worse.
