Social perceptions of males as the protectors and head of households make it difficult for people to understand and believethat males are also victims of gender-based violence. Lack of legal provision makes it difficult for men to report the abuse. There is a need for a legal framework in South Africa that will allow men to voice out the abuse. The framework must protect men against any type of abuse by women, emotional, psychological, and physical. Feminists in South Africa have double standards in the treatment of male victims. Men are reluctant to report cases of abuse by women because the justice system is biased toward women. The stigma against men that report cases of abuse discourages abused men to report cases against women. It is a cultural taboo for a man to tell other men that his girlfriend or wife is abusing him. Society and the government have a role to encourage men to report cases of abuse and the support must be made available.
