I've been reading about the subject extensively over the last few days and it's absolutely haunting. Despite almost zero reporting or recognition for the pervasiveness of this phenomenon, with absolutely no funding for treatment, it's somehow traced back to "misogyny". From the few small amount of papers published on the subject, they often remark that the emasculation is a product of internalized misogynistic tendencies, because the consequence of destroying a man's sense of masculinity implies that homosexuality and femininity are inherently immoral.

I really can't express how angry this makes me.

They often remark that women are naturally the main victims of the act (sigh), therefore excusing the lack of support. But they often contradict themselves by emphasizing the social stigma surrounding being raped as a man, by another man.

They go over men being brutally gang raped in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, castrated, sodomized, kept as sex slaves, as a method to destroy the man's sense of masculinity. Apparently, it's very effective in warfare. It essentially destroys your ability to function on any level. You are relegated to an inferior position in the DRC and regarded as what natives would describe as a "bush wife". You can no longer protect the tribe, it rescinds all status or respect you had in the community. The intention behind this is to essentially destroy your adversaries identity, and therefore ability to fight. Many commit suicide or can never reach an erection again. Very few are able to seek treatment out of shame. Even by conservative estimates it accounts for roughly 10% of the rapes that occur in the DRC. Considering the overwhelming stigma behind disclosing the crime, it's probably significantly higher.

Somehow they twist this perceived shame into misogyny and homophobia. Because if your raped as a man, have the self-perception of being emasculated or homosexual, and feel existential dread about this, somehow this relates to the patriarchy of course.

Again, they contradict themselves. Why are these same characteristics common in almost all male-male rape cases? Are all of those men misogynistic homophobic patriarchy rats?

Just, how the fuck do men getting brutally raped en masse, with absolutely no support, no recognition, no intergovernmental funding or programs, no treatment, no compassion, rampant suicide, this is somehow, indirectly, the man's fault.

There was another article about the Abu Ghraib sexual violence case perpetrated by U.S military personnel. The author is perplexed by the fact that women participated in the act, and eventually reconciles this by assuming they are victims of the patriarchy (offsetting responsibility onto her superiors) because she was just "following orders" by sexually torturing the prisoners. They present masculinity as the driving force behind the rape of these men. So how can a few sugar and spice girls possibly commit wartime atrocities? That's irrational! They could never be complicit. I guess all those women that ostracized those male rape victims were also controlled by the patriarchy.

This lends a lot of credibility to the male disposability theory. Fuck this planet.
