I am posting this on here because I want to get advice from the dads and fathers. May you all have a happy Father’s Day.
I (25F) and the father of my child (25M) broke up months ago and we been co-parenting ever since and scheduled weekly visits. Our daughter had just turned 3 when the visits stopped abruptly due to quarantine and the COVID-19 pandemic. We both decided against the visits for the time being. It was his idea and I was compliant because I thought that FaceTime calls and phone calls were still a way for them to communicate. However , he hasn’t spoken to her since March. That’s four whole months without even a phone call to her. I don’t understand why he doesn’t reach out to her. I haven’t said anything because I don’t want him to think that I am nagging him and I don’t want him to call just because I told him to. I want him to reach out to her because he misses her. Our baby is so precious and I don’t understand how he can go months without even wanting to hear her voice. We are on some what good terms , we do communicate and I told him several times not to hesitate calling me if he wants to talk to her. It’s Father’s Day and I’m conflicted because he hasn’t been acting like much of a dad for months and when he did see her it was only for 6 hours on one day of the week. It hurts that he’s been so distant and I feel like if I don’t say anything he’s going to continue to not reach out. Even when we were together he didn’t help me with parenting. Refusing to change diapers, expecting me to do all the work and stay at home with her while he went out to play video games with friends. He left us when she was four months old because he wanted to date around and I gave him another chance because I wanted to try to be a family but he left us again. Leaving me as a single parent and I’m not going to lie .. it’s been hard. He wouldn’t be involved in parenting if I hadn’t asked him to see her but since we are no longer together I feel like it shouldn’t be my responsibility to tell him to call or see his own daughter. A good father would want to check up on her. I been way too nice and I’m tired of bending backwards just to avoid conflict. I don’t want to be petty but I don’t think he deserves a happy Father’s Day... I don’t want to give him the validation he wants because he’s not putting in the effort of being her dad.
