Fair enough he arrested her but why was he trying to take her down with a baton?

He looked like an oafish clown but he also could have seriously damaged her leg(s). Those guys carry pepper spray and tasers for a reason.

I understand it's easy to armchair quarterback but they chose their profession and should conduct themselves accordingly.

This cop, whether following his department's policy or not, should use better judgement.
