The Huffington Post Canada is running a story right now asking why men don't care about COVID-19 to the degree women do, even though they are infected and die at a greater rate. They even have advice on how to 'get men to care', as if we're defective for coming to slightly different conclusions about the risk factors. You can't respond to the article, because the cowards have taken away the ability to comment on many of their stories in the last few weeks. They clearly didn't like what they were hearing.

I just can't get all that worked up about a disease that's currently killed 54 000 people when we've just finished a flu season that killed 650 000 people around the world, and 950 000 the year before, and 450 000 the year before that ... every year we're watching at least 250 000 people die from the flu around the world, and we don't close borders, we don't close businesses, we don't enforce social distancing. And that's just one disease. Malaria still kills 400 000 people a year, religiously, too.

Yes, COVID is worse than the average flu by quite a ways, but it's not all that much worse than a really bad flu year. When the flu season of 2018-2019 had killed 120 people in three months, about the death toll we have in Canada right now after 3 months of COVID, all it merited was an article in the odd paper. Yes, let's take precautions, but I'm not going to panic. I'm far more worried about the devastation to the economy than I am the disease. We'll spend half a decade recovering.

Umm.. I stopped listening when she said the Black Death originated from China without evidence.
