That is kidnapping, in the US that is a felony crime. Dont know about Canada. He'd get 10 years for that.

Here's what I think:

Fact: Alec had some serious mental issues that are well-documented.

Fact: Alec sought professional help and was receiving it. May not have been perfect but at least it was consistent.

Fact: Zoe comes out with allegations years after they'd been supposedly commited. Never involved the authorities. Chooses to spring these on him now.

Fact: These allegations drive an already fragile mind to destruction.

Fact: Alec's family and co-workers immediately side with the allegations that have yet to be proven in a court of law.

Fact: Alec's family and co-workers use his toxic behaviour as evidence to support said unproven allegations.

Conclusion - Alex was troubled but correlation does not equal causation for everyone. Until Zoe gets off her ass and presents her case to police and courts, I will believe Alec innocent.

Surely this sequence of events represents a collective disaster – although no one intended it to happen like this, at every step social and ethical norms were violated.

Bull. Social Media is a potent weapon that can be used to destroy as much as to inform. If they hadn't intended this to happen, perhaps it would've been better to not abandon Alec in favor of unproven allegations while dealing with it behind closed doors.
