A female high school athlete who did not qualify for a track event - because two children who identified themselves as girls ran faster - filed a complaint Monday with the Office of Civil Rights of the Department of Education.

"Nobody in the state of Connecticut is happy with this, but nobody has the courage to speak," Selina Soule said during an interview with Tucker Carlson that aired on Monday night on his Fox News Channel.

Selina competes on the track at Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, Connecticut. She could not qualify for the 55-meter event in the New England regionals because biological children took two places, as Kelsey Bolar of The Daily Signal documented in a recent video about the 16-year-old's situation.

She is far from being the only female athlete at a disadvantage because of the policies that allow transgender girls to compete with biological ones, according to what Selina said to Carlson in "Tucker Carlson Tonight".

"I was not the only one affected by this," he said. "There were countless female athletes in the state of Connecticut, as well as all my indoor athletic equipment. We missed out on winning the state open championship because of the team the transgender athlete was in. "

Christiana Holcomb, legal counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom, a Christian legal aid group, joined Selina for the interview. Holcomb said the organization filed the complaint to do justice to Selina's situation.

Emilie Kao, director of the Richard and Helen DeVos Center for Religion and Civil Society at The Heritage Foundation, told The Daily Signal in an email that Selina should not face such discrimination.

"Women and girls must be free to compete in athletics without fear of injury, and with the expectation that their opponents are of the same sex," Kao said, adding:

Policies that allow men to identify themselves as women in an athletic competition are already politicizing sports and eliminating the achievements and scholarship opportunities of deserving athletes such as Selina Soule and her classmates.

Since Congress passed Title IX in 1972, the number of women and girls participating in sports has increased from 1 in 27 to 2 in 5. This has benefited their performance in the classes and on the playing fields.

According to the complainants, by ignoring the reality of sexual differences, gender identity policies threaten progress and create injustice and danger for athletes.

I don't see this as a men's right issue, not directly at any rate.

However, it is galling. I don't really care if you want to identify as whatever. Male, female, zer, yellow submarine? Man, go for it. But don't expect the rest of us to live by your delusions. In reality there are very few truly intersex people. Everyone else is just pretending.

I'd be pissed if I were one of these women who just want to compete. They have every reason to be upset.
