Had a young woman try something similar on the A train in Manhattan a year or so ago. She apparently didn't want anyone sitting in the seat directly in front of her (she was in a side, window seat), so as we board the train she takes her huge plastic smoothie or whatever the hell it was cup and places it on the seat as people enter (it was still full, she intended on drinking it I assume but just wanted to make sure no one sat down). Without a word I walked over, removed the drink, set it on the floor, sat down, and proceeded to read until my stop came up. She sat there in stunned silence, eventually sheepishly picking up the cup. I could feel uneasiness radiating from her until my stop came, dumb bitch. Dudes who try similar shit get the same treatment. They may look tough sitting there taking up an entire seat, but they'll move that goddamned bag quicker than a woman will. The 'tough guys' just aren't expecting anyone to say anything to them, and their true nature is revealed when you do. EDIT: I should add, she was already on the train when it arrived in the station.

I used to ride the train everyday to work. I tried being patient and logical to these kind of people, some have moved bags some remain bullheaded and refuse, not just woman either and their bags, also men and their backpacks or laptop bags. I don’t know if it was me becoming a father that did it, but a level of not giving a fuck about strangers that I didn’t think obtainable came over me. Nowadays I would simply just push her shit on the fucking ground and say seats are for the people. She could screech and act all sorts of ridiculous, but if you’ve ridden the train everyday, no one is going to defend her. This girl is ridiculously out of touch.
