I noticed r/asamale a while ago when the bot posted my username because of a comment I mentioned my gender in. However, me mentioning it is one thing, creating an uneditable unerasable post without my permission in order to track me really bothers me. Going through the creator’s responses to people complaining really illustrates that they are doing this with ill intent.

I feel the whole thing is wrong.

The majority of us who mention that we are “a guy, a male, a man, a dude” say so because we feel it gives important context.

If I’m responding to a thread in a female focused subreddit, I want to let people know that this is the direction my perspective and experiences come from. I also feel it’s important to be upfront about who is commenting.

However, periodically I like clearing out my comment history for my own personal privacy. I do this not only for professional reasons but personal ones and, most importantly, because I like having the freedom to do so.

To have someone create a bit that keeps track of a user and their gender strikes me as something highly discriminatory.

In the past, I’ve tried to find out if other ones exist to keep track of women or ethnic background (if someone calls themselves black or white or etc) and I wasn’t successful (maybe I missed something?).

Is there a way to report this?

It really bothers me. I don’t buy the argument that it shouldn’t bother me. Looking at the Reddit guidelines I can’t quite fit this into something. I imagine if there was enough of a voice behind reporting it then it might fall under harassment but I highly doubt that would happen since it’s about men (if it was women I think it would change fast...).

I don’t think anyone should be subjected to this regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation, we come here to enjoy privacy, if we share personal info, it should be at our discretion, not someone else’s.

Am I wrong?
