Time and Time again i see guys trying to come off as intellectual or cool by binding themselves with the past and refusing to engage with contemporary culture. This idea that a lifestyle based off of old world ideals will mean that they have an advantage over others. I can say that from experience and observation all it it ends up doing is giving one "Grandpa syndrome". A blind arrogance to modern culture which handicaps most guys ability to remain independent and mentally satisfied. One becomes isolated, marginalized and blind to the current societal obstacles that must be dealt with to get ahead in current day reality. This even occurs with some older men who refuse to move onto modern technology or culture due to nostalgia and are left behind.

Those who are older who don't have grandpa syndrome have the ultimate advantage because they are willing to adapt to changes in the modern world regardless of the learning curve. There is a reason why President Trump (a man of 70 years of experience) is one of the most famous people alive, he uses trends to his advantage, engages with popular culture and isn't afraid of it, while using the tools of the modern world to create the narratives he wishes. Whether one loves him or hates him one can't deny he has maintained his empire through the years by avoiding "grandpa syndrome" and adapting with the changes in culture through the decades. (in the 80s he used newsprint ads to convey messages, and now he uses twitter).

My points is that one has to be open to changes in culture and tech that can be taken advantage of to be able to stay ahead of the curve and remain completely independent.
