Friend of mine had a kid. It went south. Now mother has a new Man-Figure and wants to completely cut (True Father) out, start new family and it's just not right. Looking for advice for him, groups to contact, etc. Reddit, how do I help this family remain whole and true to it's roots, for the child's sake? Southeast Michigan, Ann Arbor FWIW. Sure, none of my business, but that's not how I operate.

Parents can’t unilaterally cut off the other parent’s time with the child. If that happens, the other party can start legal proceedings in which a judge will develop a custody schedule in the child’s best interests. If one parent has essentially taken the child hostage, the judge will make interim orders to grant the other parent reasonable time with the child while the final orders are decided. Parental alienation (one parent turning the child against the other parent) is looked at very negatively by judges.
So advise your friend to get a good lawyer and start proceedings. Beyond that, it’s really the lawyer’s job to advise your friend, not your job.
