To “man up” means to conform to your social gender expectations even if they make you visibly uncomfortable.

A while back I asked this sub and others what they thought it meant to "man up" in current year. To all those who responded, I thank you. It was very informative, although it did reveal just how much the connotations of that phrase had changed and not for the better. I took much of that insight and tried to incorporate it into this article. I also tried to convey a sense of hope that the idea of "manning up" would one day take on a more positive meaning. I'm afraid that may take a while, though.
