An open question for the sub, but here's my take: I remember admiring some of his stuff. He really changed the way I view movies and art in general.

But while he shows, in my opinion, a great ability to dissect the pure aesthetics of media, separate from ideological concerns, when it comes to politics he goes to great lengths to intellectualize radically left stances, even when it's pretty clearly unreasonable to do so?

Like it becomes really easy to tell when he's going through all these mental gymnastics to somehow comprehend the idea of a master filmmaker who's also a conservative, or the idea that conservative stances that counter his can still be expressed artfully and beautifully.

And this perceivable split in his thinking is also present when he talks about other topics as well.
Including men's rights. I first heard of gamer gate through him. And his article sold me on the idea that it was toxic and hateful. But when I actually read the inciting posts of gamer gate, I was surprised to find that it was thoughtfully written and kind of validating, since the guy writes about mental health from a males perspective.

And when I actually delved into the world of men's rights as a whole, I was surprised to find that it didn't match the picture FCH painted. So, yeah. That's my take.
