We don't blame people for not locking their cars when their cars are stolen?

We don't blame people for not locking their house when their house gets robbed?

We blame people all the time for doing stupid shit that leads to them being victimized.

Rape is the only crime where the accuser is protected by anonymity but the accused never is.It inverts the presumption of innocence.

Gonna bring up the stanford swimmer case here.

He was 100% at fault for the assault. Lets get that out of the way, first and foremost.

However. Victim blaming/shaming has to play a role here. She went to a college frat party. As a (I think) 26 year old adult woman. To spend time with her little sister. She went to a frat party to spend time with her little sister. Uh... yeah, ok.

She drank to the point of getting black-out drunk. She didn't just drink to the point of getting a nice buzz+, she drank excessively, to the point of getting fucking blitzed.

She didn't make a good decision.

She paid for making a bad decision. She didn't deserve what happened to her.

But that doesn't take away the fact that she made a horrible decision.

Its like they can't understand there is a difference between:

A. condoning rape or any other crime

and

B. Criticizing the victim for the choices s/he made that may have been a contributing factor to the crime.

It really lays bare that what these women want is the ability to engage in consequence free behavior both in terms of how others interact with them and their own internal feelings of self-worth.
