Are people oblivious to the fact that kid movies always have some big ugly dumb guy/character that gets bossed around by women, especially young girls? 2 that I recently have watched with my son are The BFG and the Despicable series. It’s hard for me not to say something negative to him

Since the 1990's there's been a spirit in movies where the stupid boy isn't just a comic character, but a representative of all boys, and where the girl kicking him in the shins is striking a blow not only for herself, but for Girl Power.

For example, compare the "the pitcher's a girl" scenes in the 1976 Bad News Bears and the 2005 remake. The charm of the original film was that the players were amiable fuckups who didn't fit easily into anyone's scheme for a baseball team or a sports movie. In the Girl-Power remake, the girl enters the scene with the rock music playing so you know she's representing and gonna take no shit, and the players obligingly play their parts in an /r/thathappened fantasy, where one of them just has to say I bet she throws like a girl and just has to be humiliated.

I haven't seen the recent BFG movie. I read the book as a kid, and saw the 80s/90s movie. Who got bossed about?

Well the BFG was written by Roald Dahl a long time ago so probably was not written amid the same feminized culture as we see today.
