I just got a job for a very prominent health insurance company in the United States. I've been looking at the types of coverage and what is covered and what isn't on a lot of peoples plans, both men and women.
One thing I've noticed is a very clear cut discrimination against men in covered medical procedures, particularity in sexual health. So far 90% of plans I've seen;
100% coverage for IUD's (including insertion & removal)
100% coverage on the depo shot
100% coverage on tubal ligation
Plans that include these 100% coverage for women-only services also include:
Copay 'x dollar amount' could be more if seeing a specialist (which you most likely would) after paying copay 100% covered for a vasectomy (reversal not covered)
Now I'm not saying these services shouldn't be covered 100% for women, after a man pays a copay his vasectomy is covered. But, why the hell is there a copay for the male procedure and not have a reversal covered too? Meanwhile, a woman can get an infinite number of shot's and IUD's and be covered 100% of the time.
Obviously, not every single plan is the same and there are exceptions to everything. But this is a trend that I've noticed since taking this new position.
there doesn't seem to be anything here
