Even though things were tough at times growing up, the harder daily life got, the more my dad did his best to provide. I learned from him that you don't need an expensive piece of paper to tell you that you have skills, talents, and intelligence. However, he did ensure that his 3 boys had the support necessary to succeed if college was the direction they chose. The strict upbringing showed me what a father really does when he loves his children. I learned valuable lessons that no one except a REAL father could teach.
My grandfathers and two uncles reinforced the positive behavior and overall outlook. You would never know by talking to them that they had seen some of the most horrible atrocities known to man, during wars fought on a world stage, and in a small country in Southeast Asia. All four of the extended father figures in my life, who taught me everything from Duck Hunt on the Nintendo to how to find a morel mushroom in a dense wooded undergrowth, will have my love to my dying day. As I'm sure I had theirs until their deaths. I have one remaining grandpa, and at 90 he's in no hurry to quit yet.
I learned to be a respectful man, but also to be protective of the ones I most loved. I owe everything I am as a dad to these 5 men. Every one, not just my dad, had a hand in shaping and molding me into who I am now. I do and always will love them for everything.
I just wish that my ex-wife would stop the unending vendetta to keep my son from me. She knows it would be tough for me to afford a lawyer to take her back to court. At this very moment, anyway. One day, she will get a very unpleasant surprise. I will not call DCFS because of her agreement violations, because I'm not trying to remove my son from her life. Every Father's Day (and then some), I send her a text or try to call to no avail. Two years is enough. My son is loved. More than anything I've ever known in life. I miss him every day. That's all that matters. Yes, we got divorced. We got JOINT CUSTODY and I have rights. I've never missed a support payment and never will. You have no right to keep him from his father just because you got remarried. One day you will fully understand. I cannot wait for that day.
Until that day comes, I will love you FOREVER Matthew the Second.
I love you too Dad and Grandpa.
To my uncles and grandpa in Valhalla, I'll see you again when I'm done here, and I love you and miss you all.

Hey man, INAL. But I helped my girlfriend with her custody battle. I know, I know, but the guy is an actual deadbeat and kidnapped her and my gf does not prevent visitation (though he doesn't even try to visit her.) Anyways long story short I was reading your post and it set off some bells. First off, she cannot deny you visitation. Which is what she is doing. You have JOINT CUSTODY as deemed by the courts? If that's true then she is violating a court order and you can (and should) hold her in contempt of court. This will not take your child away from your ex-wife but instead re-open a custody trial. Your wife will then have the option of conceding to your demands (giving you your rights of the father as deemed by the previous custody trial) AKA visitation legal things etc. If she concedes there will be no trial, no lawyer. But it sounds to me that she is more trying to control everything in your life and hurt you. So it probably will go to trial. But rest assured when you show the judge the texts between you and her, requesting visitation. When all your child support payments are in place and up to date. A judge will deem that the trial was unnecessary if your wife had just headed the court order (both of them) that this trial was frivolous, and pending further evaluation of both the child's caretakers the judge may make a different ruling on where the child lives permanently and more than likely will award you with your attorney's fees because of the needlessness of the trial. Unless she can make a good case against your character and your ability to father/parent responsibly. But you will definitely get your rights back as a father and you will not take the child from her mother unless that is your wish. But, honestly, sole physical custody is a pipe dream. It really depends on how pissed the judge gets over her violation of two court orders and about her keeping the child from her father for so long. A lawyer is expensive but if you know what to file and how to file you may only need retain one for trial. In regards to paperwork I suggest finding a good paralegal (still a little pricy) or DIY which I do not recommend because it would be long and hard to figure out the correct paperwork to file I.E. What to file and when to file etc. in all honesty post this in r/legaladvice to get some real in state legal responses from more qualified people. I may just be an asshat because my states laws are different in regards to custody laws and whatnot. But I want you to fight. There is a very good chance. You have a goddamn case, any judge will see that.
