In Denmark, parents have the right to a total of 52 weeks' leave with maternity subsistence allowance. The mother is entitled to four weeks' maternity leave prior to giving birth and 14 weeks after; the father is entitled to two weeks' leave after the birth; and the remaining time can be divided according to individual wishes.

Does anybody else know what "according to individual wishes" means here, as it applies to Denmark. I know that in the UK converting maternity leave to shared parental leave requires permission of the mother. So it's not a right. Is this the same in Denmark?

One of the problems amongst many feminists is that they see any gain made by men as a loss for women. While I don't believe we currently have a wage gap it's probable that there was not long ago, however I've always thought the easiest way of ensuring equality on the matter was; more equality, basically giving men and women an equal amount of maternity and paternity leave therefore making gender and leave irrelevant as both would be just as likely to have children and most people would take any leave they're entitled to
