I would say it was illegal since men cannot partake in the offer. There was a case where the Women's Institute use to get 10% at Grape tree. This company had to make the offer available to men.

I would say illegal in the UK. Since the offer cannot be accessed by men.

on the UK equalities (CAB) website it says clubs or societies of less than 25 people can discriminate based on gender.

but this is not a club and it is free, so im confused of the legality?

FROM THE CITIZENS ADVICE WEBSITE

"Sex discrimination when providing goods, facilities and services

It is illegal for anyone providing goods, facilities or services in the UK to discriminate because you are a man or woman.

Examples of goods, facilities and services include, shops, financial services such as banking, leisure facilities such as pubs and clubs, entertainment and transport.

Someone providing goods, facilities or services must not:

refuse to provide you with goods, facilities or services because you are a man or a woman provide any of these things on less favourable terms or conditions because you are a man or a woman. It is illegal to discriminate regardless of how the goods and services are provided or whether you have to pay for them or not.

For example, it’s illegal for someone to discriminate against you when you’re buying something in a shop or over the internet, when you’re making a telephone enquiry or when someone gives you written information."

They are breaking the law if the classes are for females only.

It would be worth checking since it does not say anywhere that it is females only.

It gives the impression of being for females but it may be open to everybody.

If it is females only they are 100% breaking the law.

It is not a club.

The classes are free for females. The offer can only be accessed by going to the class.

You will be given your 10% off discount at the end of the class.

Direct discrimination against men.

100% sure they are breaking the law.

They have to give men 10% discount as well.

But are the classes breaking the law or just the discount on the shop below ?

[–]furchfur 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The classes are not it is the discount which is.

Where does it say in any of the literature that the offers are only open to women or aren't open to men?? It's clear from the website that this is marketed to appeal solely to women but I fear there's a presumption that this is exclusive to women simply because of the 'mygirlsstudio' line, images etc. Book a place using a name like 'Hilary' or some other unisex name. If they refuse you service when you turn up there then you are being discriminated against, however it's not illegal or discriminatory to market any product or service to appeal to a target group.

I think the point is that it's sexist to offer a discount of 10% to women only

[–]Rockbottom503 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But that's my point - nowhere in the discount ad does it say it's only for women either - it just states 10% off everything in the adidas store. The gym industry is riddled with sexism against men, don't get me wrong, I drive past 2 gyms which only allow female members every single day along with a number of others advertising different subscription rates based on gender alone - I'm not disputing it exists within the industry...... I just don't see it in this example.
